Concept for a new boutique hotel in La Malbaie, in Charlevoix, Canada
We unveil the concept for a new boutique hotel in La Malbaie — or Malle Baye, for those in the know.
In 2014, we reimagined Auberge Truchon, its restaurant, and its eight rooms. Ten years later, we made waves with the lounge L’Île Mystérieuse, its oceanic atmosphere inspired by Jules Verne and the seafaring Truchon family. Today, this ecosystem is completed with a boutique hotel:
- L'Écho du large -
A name that personifies the bay, calling to us again and again — captivating and spellbinding, nestled between rock and river.
With 36 guest rooms, an event space, a bar, and a rooftop terrace, L’Écho du large is designed to welcome tourists, families, and professionals into a universe rooted in the materiality of Charlevoix.
Between land and marince vegetation, the lounge is bathed in natural light streaming through three skylights, caressing the organic textures and moss-covered walls and banquettes. Service areas, strategically positioned at the heart of the floor plan, anchor the space with solidity, like the surrounding rock. At the far end, the breakfast room unfolds as a natural extension of the multifunctional space; facing south, its mineral luminosity contrasts with the abyssal feel of the bar area.
On the upper floors, three rooms typologies speak the same saline vocabulary, overlooked by a multi-zoned rooftop terrace. A solarium, fire pit area, lounge, sauna, and kitchen garden frame the valley slopes, offering a space to contemplate dusk settling over the St. Lawrence River.
As for the opening date, L’Écho du large will answer in its own time — like a call carried by the bay.
